Week 1!

We arrived in Pescara on Monday at 8:30PM, after about 26 hours of traveling. Got a little sleep on the long flight to Rome, which left 3 hours late from Chicago. Lots of sitting in the airport. Once we got to Rome, went to the wrong train station, had to haul our 50 lb. bags through the subway and trains, with lots of stairs. Finally took a 4 hour train ride to Pescara and found our bed and breakfast, Bella Pescara, which is very nice!

Our first full day, we walked about 5 miles around Pescara. We went to the University and found many apartment listings, but no one really answered our calls. Casey was able to talk to Nicola, a PhD student he will work with. Nicola found us an apartment that we can use at least for the last part of May and maybe June if we can't get another place that works.

On our second day, we woke up, ate, and then slept some more. The time change is still hitting us a little, but we are trying to change our habits. We took the bus for the first time (not too bad) and took it to meet Nicola and the other employees at Casey's work. Nicola was able to show us the apartment. It's pretty nice, close to Casey's work and the beach, but no internet so we're gonna have to figure out where an internet cafe is.

We also met Guido, Casey's boss, who took us to a nice bar/cafe to hang out with an English speaking group his girlfriend, Torrie, put together when she came over from the U.S. She is also from Colorado. There were about 9 of us there and it was a good time! They meet up every other week so we are going to go to a BBQ on the 29th.

Today, we got up and went looking for some sheets because the first apartment we have does not have any. We ended up buying multi-use beach towels, aka sheets, blankets, bathroom towels and beach towels!!

Overall, it is quite an adventure so far. We have eaten too much pizza already, but haven't really found anything else yet. There are not really any blondes or red heads and obviously we look and sound different so we get stared at a lot, but oh well! Off to lunch, then tomorrow we have to get our bags on the bus to get them to the apartment; the other passengers are going to hate us, but no other way! Ciao ciao!
